Director of Donor Organizing

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Director of Donor Organizing will oversee all facets of NDN Collective’s individual giving program, including the planning, implementation, ongoing management, and evaluation of the program. This will include developing tailored strategies and solicitation procedures for major gifts (six or seven figure gifts), planned gifts, mid-range gifts, and small gifts. The Director of Donor Organizing will manage a small team including the Annual Giving Manager, Manager of Campaign Based Fundraising, and Major Donor Officer (to be added in 2025). With the support of the Director of Advancement, the Director of Donor Organizing will provide vision, management, and support to implement a comprehensive cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plan for individual donors, and drive team members toward meeting a $20 million goal for individual donors for 2024.

The Position

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and leads the implementation of all aspects of the individual giving program;
  • Meets or exceeds annual individual giving revenue goals established in partnership with the Director of Advancement;
  • Manages the individual giving revenue waterway, and moves management process(es) to ensure that team members systematically cultivate, solicit, and steward individual prospects and donors;
  • Leads portfolio creation and management for the individual giving program, and develops and solicits a portfolio of major donors and prospects;
  • Assists in the development and execution of a planned giving strategy;
  • Makes direct solicitations through phone/video chat, personal visits, written proposals, appeal letters; Assists the board and other staff with their solicitation (e.g. provides portfolio development support and strategic counsel, and helps with donor communications);
  • Manages the creation and production of solicitation materials, including, but not limited to, letters, emails, and more;
  • Manages ongoing donor acknowledgment, appreciation, and recognition consistent with gift level;
  • Uses development software, currently Salesforce, for donor management, the tracking of cultivation progress, the progress toward overall goals, and in order to keep staff informed;
  • Assists with other duties as assigned to help propel the Advancement team and NDN Collective forward.

Who You Are

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree preferred with six + years of successful fundraising experience, in individual and major gifts, with a nonprofit organization, preferably with an annual budget over $5,000,000;
  • Exceptionally detail-oriented with very strong written and verbal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to write clear and compelling content for donor audiences;
  • Must have experience creating high-quality materials and documents for meetings, presentations, and events;
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge with proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with Fluxx and/or Salesforce (fundraising/grant management software);
  • Competency in systems management; experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred);
  • Experience that demonstrates a commitment to anti-oppression values, and operationalizing justice and decolonization.
  • A deep commitment to supporting Indigenous self-determination across Turtle Island.

Knowledge and Ability

  • The candidate must be an experienced fundraiser with a track record of managing individual donor programs and successfully securing gifts at and above the six-figure level. Must have the knowledge and ability to implement and manage a comprehensive donor program, including a robust acknowledgment and recognition plan. The candidate must also have the know-how to engage a variety of donor audiences and tailor messages to align with a variety of giving priorities.
  • A skilled people and project manager – The candidate knows how to lead and implement a project from visioning to execution and has the ability to encourage their team members to do their best work. The candidate must have experience in planning and implementing giving campaigns, and a strong ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers in joint and shared efforts.
  • An excellent organizer and strategist – the candidate knows how to network, forge connections, and strategize around how to reach people and inspire generosity and motivate donors. The candidate must be able to represent NDN Collective independently to potential donors and make compelling presentations and requests for support.

This position is salaried, commensurate with experience at a GS Level 15 ranging from $115,000-$130,000. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401 (k) retirement plan, a wellness program, personal leave, and professional development.
